Ford Escape Discontinued: What Comes Next?

July 20th, 2026 by

2026 Ford Escape
The Ford Escape has been discontinued. Ford ended production at the Louisville Assembly Plant in late 2025, closing out a run that spanned more than two decades and produced millions of vehicles. If you’ve been shopping for an Escape, the following guide from Sutton Ford is here to help.

Why Was the Ford Escape Discontinued?

Ford is retooling its Louisville facility with a nearly $2 billion investment to support EV production. The plant is set to produce a new midsize electric pickup beginning in 2027, and converting it meant ending Escape production ahead of that launch. The Escape had a lot going for it, and the decision wasn’t about the vehicle underperforming; it was about Ford redirecting resources toward its next chapter.

Will There Be A 2027 Ford Escape?

Ford has not announced any plans for a non-electric replacement for the Escape. The 2026 model year was the last year of production. Shoppers in Chicago and New Lenox who were counting on a direct successor will need to look at what else Ford currently offers.

What Ford SUV Is Similar to the Escape?

The current Ford lineup gives SUV buyers a couple of directions to consider. The Bronco Sport brings added off-road capability and a distinctive look, while the Explorer steps up in size with three-row flexibility and a strong feature set. Neither is a one-for-one replacement, but both are worth a serious look depending on what you valued most in the Escape.
